Overview

The Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Management has over the years played a pivotal role in producing the knowledge base that sustains the link between agriculture and other sectors of the economy at national and global levels.

Our programmes in Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Management are designed to produce high‑level manpower capable of teaching, research, and providing solutions to complex problems arising from the linkages between agriculture and the broader economy.

Students are prepared for academic careers, roles as agricultural economists in the public or private sector, or entrepreneurial ventures in agribusiness. Graduates of this department compete favourably with their counterparts across the globe.

Location

The Department is located in the ancient town of Ejigbo, within the College of Agriculture. Ejigbo is one of the oldest local governments in the former Oyo State (now Osun State).

It shares boundaries with Oyo State and the local government areas of Iwo, Ola Oluwa, Egbedore, and Ede North.

The vegetation is tropical savannah, with major crops including cashew, cocoa, maize, cassava, and oil palm.

Brief History

The Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Management was established following the bifurcation of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension during the 2021/2022 academic session.

The first cohort consisted of 27 students. Since then, the department has experienced unprecedented growth and development across all areas.
