The Department of Business Education commenced as a programme within the Department of Arts and Social Science Education after successful resource verification during the 2022/2023 academic session. The programme started with four pioneer students offering the four-year B.Sc. (Ed) Business Education degree.

As a specialized vocational education programme, Business Education is designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. It equips students with the necessary skills for teaching business subjects, office occupations, and entrepreneurship at various levels of the educational system.

Programme Philosophy

The B.Sc. (Ed) Business Education programme is a specialized profession aimed at producing graduates with relevant knowledge, pedagogical competence, and entrepreneurial skills. It prepares students to become effective business teachers as well as self-reliant professionals in the world of work.

The programme focuses on developing competencies in Accounting, Marketing, Office Management, and Entrepreneurship, while providing strong pedagogical training for teaching business subjects in secondary schools and tertiary institutions.

Programme Objectives

The B.Sc. (Ed) Business Education programme is designed to achieve the following objectives

Produce competent business education teachers capable of teaching Accounting, Marketing, Office Management and Entrepreneurship at secondary and tertiary levels.

Equip graduates with practical skills for employment in office occupations and business organizations.

Develop entrepreneurial competencies that enable graduates to become self-employed or employers of labour.

Provide a strong foundation in general education and specialized business subjects in line with NUC Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards.

Admission Requirements

Multiple entry pathways for qualified candidates into the B.Sc. (Ed) Business Education programme

UTME / 100 Level Entry

Candidates must possess five (5) credit passes at SSCE or its equivalent (not more than two sittings), including English Language and Mathematics, plus relevant subjects in Arts, Social Sciences or Commercial subjects. Acceptable UTME score and Post-UTME screening required.

Direct Entry / 200 Level

Candidates must have five (5) O'Level credits plus at least two A'Level passes in relevant subjects (preferably in Business or Social Science subjects). Candidates with NCE (Lower Credit and above) or acceptable UNIOSUN Foundation Programme results may also be considered for 200 level admission.

Duration & Graduation

Minimum duration: 4 years for UTME candidates, 3 years for Direct Entry candidates. Students must complete and pass all prescribed courses, meet minimum CGPA requirement, and satisfy all Senate and NUC conditions for graduation.

Post-UTME Screening: All candidates must pass the University Post-UTME Screening Exercise before admission is offered.
