Welcome to the College of Education
The College of Education began its journey in 2007, welcoming its inaugural cohort of students to the Ipetu-Ijesa Campus at the start of the 2007/2008 session. From those beginnings, it has grown into a comprehensive teacher-training institution, now hosting fourteen fully accredited programmes across eight academic departments and cultivating a new generation of skilled educators.

The College of Education was established in 2007 alongside other foundational Colleges of Osun State University. The College took off at the inception of academic activities in the University during the 2007/2008 academic session with its first set of students at the Ipetu-Ijesa Campus. On our campus, you will find a wide range of services devoted to enhancing our students' studies, career development, social life as well as their well-being. Our students have access to the central library, laboratories, computing facilities, health centre and sporting facilities among others.

Presently, there are eight Departments in the College, offering 14 programmes across various specializations. All the programmes in the College are fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) with curricula tailored to the Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards for teacher education in Nigeria.

Location
The College of Education is situated at Ipetu-Ijesa. The town, which is in Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State, Nigeria, is strategically located along the Ibadan-Akure express road. It is approximately 40km from Ile-Ife and 37km from Akure (capital of Ondo State), making it accessible to students from across the southwest region. Its location in a serene, academic-friendly environment provides an ideal setting for learning, research, and personal development.
Brief History
2006 Osun State University included the Faculty/College of Education in the academic brief submitted to the National Universities Commission (NUC) at the point of seeking approval for commencement of academic activities. The College was envisioned as the flagship institution for teacher education in Osun State, addressing the critical need for qualified, innovative educators.
2007 The University received its licence to operate as Nigeria's 80th University, and the College of Education was formally established at the Ipetu-Ijesa Campus. The College admitted its pioneer students during the 2007/2008 academic session, offering foundational programmes in education.
2008-2015 The College experienced steady growth in student enrollment and academic programmes. New departments were established, and the academic staff strength increased significantly. The College developed its infrastructure including the central library, laboratories, and computing facilities to support quality teacher education.
2016-2020 The College expanded its programme offerings to 14 undergraduate programmes across eight departments. All programmes successfully obtained full accreditation from the National Universities Commission, affirming the quality of academic delivery and facilities. The College also strengthened its community engagement initiatives, establishing partnerships with secondary schools in Oriade Local Government Area and beyond.
Present Today, the College of Education stands as a centre of excellence in teacher education, with eight academic departments offering fully accredited programmes. The College continues to innovate in curriculum delivery, integrating educational technology and modern pedagogical approaches to prepare 21st-century teachers who are reflective practitioners, innovative thinkers, and agents of positive change in Nigerian education.
The College has designed its programmes to ensure that graduates possess deep subject knowledge, pedagogical skills, technological competence, and strong ethical foundations. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on training through teaching practice, micro-teaching, and community engagement, preparing students to become leaders in educational institutions, policy development, and educational research.

Community Engagement & Outreach
CENTRE FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
The centre organises workshops, seminars, and capacity-building programmes for teachers and community members in Oriade Local Government Area and beyond, focusing on educational best practices, adult literacy, and lifelong learning. The centre serves as a bridge between the College and the community, ensuring that educational research translates into practical community development.
SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP AND MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME
The College collaborates with secondary schools in Ipetu-Ijesa and surrounding communities to provide mentorship, teaching practice supervision, and educational support. This programme fosters a strong link between theory and practice, allowing students to gain real classroom experience while supporting the educational development of local schools.
ADULT LITERACY AND CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMME
Through the Department of Adult Education, the College runs adult literacy programmes for community members, providing opportunities for adults to acquire basic literacy skills and continue their education. This initiative contributes to reducing illiteracy and promoting lifelong learning in Osun State.
COUNSELLING AND WELLNESS OUTREACH
The Department of Guidance and Counselling organizes counselling services and wellness programmes for students in partner schools and community members, addressing mental health, career guidance, and personal development needs.
SCIENCE EDUCATION OUTREACH
The Science and Mathematics Education Department conducts science outreach programmes in local schools, promoting interest in science subjects through demonstrations, workshops, and science fairs, addressing the national challenge of low enrollment in science education.
